Start by going to your township office and get a recycling bin! Read the list they (should) give you to find out what and what not to put in your new recycling bin. Several facilities close in Oakland County recycle all sorts of materials. Do you have some extra metal from a project? Haggerty Metals will BUY it from you! http://haggertymetal.com/index.html Royal Oak recycling is a recycling wonderland! They recycle 170,00 tons of recyclable material every year! http://www.royaloakrecycling.com/ And they have a facility located right in Highland! Old prom or formal dresses can go to charities for girls who can't afford them. A way to give back to the community and to clear some space in your closet. Hope closet is a local charity doing just that! http://www.hopecloset.com/donate.html These are just a few of the places for you to explore in Oakland county. Don't be afraid to research all the cool new exciting recycle places!
Is it expensive?
It depends on you, Are you going all out? Most suburbs and subdivisions have a specific company come and pick up their recycling bin which they pay for. But if you get a bin from your township office, your regular garbage service will send a recycle truck to take care of your bin no problem. Simple at home recycling doesn't cost anything. In reality it will save you money, give it back to you in a way to say thanks!
